Robert A. Carges
Rob Carges is a 16-year veteran of the Sweden Town Board, serving eight of those years as Deputy Supervisor. He is seeking a fifth term on the Board.
Rob has been instrumental in bringing the Town’s information technology up to speed and making sure that employees and technology systems keep pace with the ever-changing field. He keeps a watchful eye on the Town Budget, particularly in the areas of utility consumption He has worked diligently on water district expansion, development of the park and inter-municipal cooperation. Rob has also shown a strong interest in improving Town communication. He initiated the Town’s website and newsletter, the Snapshots. He serves as the board liaison to the Community Center, helping the staff to develop strong recreation programs at a reasonable cost.
Rob is currently reviewing the Town’s telephone system for possible cost savings and has been advising the Town of Clarkson on the implementation of its Town newsletter. He has taken a leadership role in developing the two water district expansions currently in the planning stages and hosted the most recent public water information meeting held in March.
Rob’s full time job is as the Information Technology Director for the Brockport School District. Prior to that, he was a Main Street, Brockport business owner for many years. He served two years on the Town of Sweden Environmental Conservation Board prior to his election to the Town Board. He is also a member of the Brockport Fire Department and Exempts.
A life-time resident of the Brockport School District, Rob and his wife, Karen, make their home in the Village of Brockport. They've raised four sons – Andy, a 2009 SUNY Albany graduate; Pete, a junior at SUNY Cortland; Sam, a senior at Brockport High School; and Kevin, a freshman at Brockport High School.
Rob is seeking another term on the Town Board to help provide stability and experience in an economic turbulent time. His knowledge of the Sweden Town Budget and State funding mechanisms will be especially useful in the coming years. The Town of Sweden enjoys a strong fiscal rating, solid reserve funds and a low tax rate – all achieved during Rob’s tenure – and those are assets he intends to preserve going forward.
