Jack Milner

Jack Milner is in first term as Sweden Supervisor, after being appointed by the Sweden Town Board in April. He is seeking his first elected term in November.

Jack is a life-long resident of the community who had a 33-year career in education before retiring in 1999. Jack attended Indiana State University, was a physical education teacher, coach, athletic director and vice-principal before finishing his career as the principal of the AD Oliver Middle School in Brockport.

He is currently president of the Monroe County Public School Athletic Conference, member of the Section V Athletic Council and President of the Sweden Community Foundation. He was the recipient of the 2008 Sweden/Clarkson Community Service Award and a member of the 2009 Brockport School District Superintendent Search Committee.

Since his appointment, Jack has made the effort to meet with other local officials to learn about the ways the Town interacts with its neighbors and partnering organizations. He has also met with Town employees in all departments to learn about the role they play in delivering services to Town residents. Jack has met with many residents about a variety of issues and has attended several functions – meeting new people and renewing old acquaintances.

Jack has taken a special interest in code enforcement, believing that the Town needs to step-up its efforts to make sure our built environment is safe and attractive. To that end, he has met with or spoken with several developers and business owners in Sweden’s commercial district about making the Town inviting to shoppers and visitors.

As the Town’s chief financial officer, Jack is responsible for the preparation of the Town budget. His years of experience with school budgeting are proving helpful as is his fiscally conservative philosophy. The Town is in the process of developing its first long-range capital plan, at Jack’s behest.

Jack and his wife Beverly make their home in Sweden Village. Their two daughters are grown – one lives locally and the other in Ohio. One of Jack and Bev’s greatest pleasures is spending time with their five grandchildren.
