Nat O. Lester, III

Nat “Buddy” Lester, III is in his 10th year as Sweden Supervisor. He had previously served as a Sweden Town Justice for seven years. A lifetime resident of the Town of Sweden, Buddy joined his family’s law practice in 1988. He continues to practice his profession in the historic Main Street, Brockport building that has been in his family for four generations.

Buddy is a former member and chairman of the Brockport Clarkson Sweden Joint Recreation Commission; a former member of the Lakeside Foundation Board of Directors; and a former youth sports coach.

Currently, Buddy is treasurer of the Sweden Community Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe County Municipal Workers Compensation Pool. He is a member of the Monroe County and NYS Bar Association, and a member of the Nativity BVM Church. He and his wife Karen Lenden Lester have three children: Katie, a student at SUNY Cortland; Matthew a student at Brockport High School; and Megan, a student at the AD Oliver Middle School.

As Supervisor, Buddy has led efforts to expand public water and sewer in the Town of Sweden. In fact, during his tenure, there has been more town expansion of public water than at any other time in Sweden’s history.

He has also been successful in increasing recreational opportunities for Sweden residents. From the expansion of the senior center to the acquisition of 156 acres of park land for $1 to the gift of a $3 million community center; Buddy has managed to expand recreational facilities at minimal cost to town taxpayers.

A low town tax rate and a high level of town services is Buddy’s most notable achievement. The Town of Sweden offers a range of services offered by few other municipalities, yet maintains a tax rate lower than most.

Carefully planned development has helped the Town of Sweden maintain the low tax rate. Sweden has become a very attractive location for national retailers and at the same time, remains a place where small businesses can thrive.

Buddy is seeking his sixth 2-year term as Supervisor to continue his efforts to bring controlled growth to Sweden; maintain a stable tax rate while maintaining current services; continue development of the park; and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
