Thomas F. Ferris

Tom Ferris is seeking his second term as a Sweden Councilperson. A practicing attorney since 1997, Tom is a partner in the Rochester law firm of Connors and Ferris, LLP. He served in the United States Army from 1984 through 1988 prior to graduating from SUNY Brockport (magna cum laude) and the University of Buffalo Law School (juris doctorate).

Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of the Sweden Community Foundation and a past member of the Brockport Historic Preservation Board. He is a life-long resident of the Town of Sweden and has three children with his wife Susan Stull Ferris: Julian, Olivia and Maria.

An avid golfer and ice hockey fan, Tom was instrumental in the development of the 18-hole disc golf course at the Sweden Town Park last summer. Tom emcees the annual Community Awards Banquet and works tirelessly to attract charitable contributions to benefit recreational programs in the Town. He serves as the liaison to the Sweden Senior Center and has been closely involved in the planning of the capital project renovations currently underway at the Senior Center. Those projects include: new roofing, siding, windows, exterior doors and decking.

Tom’s expertise in employment matters has been of great benefit to the Town. He has helped modernize several employment practices and is currently undertaking a review of the Town’s Employment Policies and Employee Handbook. Several of his initiatives have helped control the spiraling costs of employee benefits while maintaining a level of benefits that are fair to both employees and taxpayers.

Another keen interest of Tom’s is economic development. He is currently working with the Greater Brockport Chamber of Commerce and other interested parties to develop a marketing and economic development plan to promote the Town of Sweden as an excellent community in which to live, own a business and shop.

Tom is seeking his second term on the Town Board to help continue the conservative and responsible stewardship of town resources; expanded recreational opportunities for residents; and the promotion of smart economic growth.
